Delicious Moments

Excuse me for ignoring my blog for what... 4 months now? It has only seemed like a lot has been going on. From my parents divorce and the beginning of the ever- crazy middle school year, one would not have to guess why there are a lack of new posts on this website... I have yet to make any extreme meals recently... Although I did happen to create my first almost totally handmade (save for the sauce) pizza in September/ October. It wasn't much- mozzarella, fresh tomato, basil, and pizza sauce from Bloom- made using a recipe off the back of a yeast packet. Well might I say, whatever yeast is, there little habitat knows much about making a good pizza. It was almost flawless, but I cannot say peferct. Only because my dad and I were not educated with the use of pizza stones. I had no clue that I was supposed to pre-heat the stone and cover it with corn meal (or corn-flower: I forget at the moment) before I placed the pizza on it and in the oven. And that's how we ended up with almost no crust- what was left of it had a rugged texture from the knife sawing it off the stone. Warm sauce, perfectly browned mozzeralla, basil cooked to perfection, and a... jagged crust? Well, we made the best out of our meal and proceeded to make sandwiches of each slice- simply by rolling it up (cheese-side in) and... eating it. Best Pizza Sandwich? I think so.

How My Blog Came To Be

Many of us have been inspired by the newly-realsed, 2009 hit, "Julie and Julia", based on a blog similar to this. This spectacular movie, starring the amazing Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, really inspired me to try to cook much more often. I decided to attempt something much like Julie's challenge, but something with a broader time limit- like 2 years, which means that I will be finished by the end of 8th grade. I am still in the process of deciding what cook book to progress through, and I will soon ask my mom to help me decide what would be best. I haven't done much with "real meal food"; you could call me more of an "begginer pastry chef". I enjoy cooking breads, cakes, cupcakes, and cookies in my free time, and even my fist cake was complimented heavily. I recall it being a white cake (from scratch of course- most likely from a James Beard cookbook or perhaps The Silver Palate) with dark chocolate icing (handmade by moi). It was a small, 2 layer cake with fresh rasberries from our garden, and it was topped with more fresh rasberries and i white delilah. Scrumptious... Especially for it being my first ever cake.
